Russell Wellner is a dynamic, rousing performer writing acoustic barnburners, campfire folk songs and environmental protest anthems. With voice, acoustic guitar, harmonica and a stomping boot, Russell has grown from the kid busking on Toronto streets to a performer who has toured internationally and across Canada. He has a collection of music released online and is set to release his first full length live album this fall. While living on Vancouver Island from 2021-2024, Russell volunteered at the Fairy Creek Old-Growth Forest Blockades. Incredibly inspired, he decided to use his voice as a songwriter to help the cause. He wrote “When the Forest Calls for Help” which became an anthem for the movement and received widespread acclaim. Russell went on to write a whole concept album/musical about the protest, which premiered at the Belfry Theatre in Victoria in June 2024. A few months later, Russell made his international debut on his “troubadour tour” of Ireland. Playing in 31 pubs and busking around the country. Russell is set to release his live album in November 2025 and will celebrate the occasion with a 2 week tour of Coastal BC!
