JAMES’ SONG

About

Russell Wellner is a rousing activist folk singer whose music combines vivid storytelling, raw acoustic energy and a deep love of nature. Equipped with voice, acoustic guitar, harmonica and a stomping boot, he has grown from a kid busking on the streets of Toronto into a dynamic touring artist.

A trained actor, Wellner approaches songwriting as storytelling, bringing uniquely Canadian characters and histories to life with songs that can be revolutionary, humorous and optimistic in equal measure. His years living on Vancouver Island inspired his environmental songwriting and activism, including music written during his involvement with the Fairy Creek Blockades and the fight to protect British Columbia’s old-growth forests.

“James’ Song” marks a new chapter for Wellner and the beginning of a more focused body of work exploring the relationship between people, industry and the natural world.

When he isn't writing, travelling or performing, Wellner can be found walking the streets of Toronto, searching for cracks in the concrete where nature is once again taking hold.
